[urq] DO I still use the large round thermostat gasket

I had a serious cooling problem with the MC motor I put in my '83. I
tried everything to clean out the blockage in the block or head (after
replacing the head gasket - just for fun). In the end what worked was
to gut a thermostat and replace it with the gasket, to disconnect the
upper and lower radiator hoses and connect two dummy hoses with PVC
and ABS plastic adaptors that necked the hoses down to garden-hose
type fittings. Then, I surged water using the faucet as supply and
valves in the garden hose to rapidly shut the water on and off from
one end for 1/2 an hour, allowing it to drain from one end, then I
surged from the other end. When I finally put it all back together it
cooled like a charm. That cleans EVERYTHING out of the engine. HTH.
