[urq] Exhaust system for Ur Quattro

Ben:

I have Paul's unit on my '83, having removed a Borla universal unit. I
removed the center resonator years ago and still run the cat. With only the
cat, Paul's muffler is a bit loud, but not as harsh, as the Borla and I may
be looking for a small center unit. The stock pipes are more like 2 1/4",
aren't they? Just removing the center resonator got rid of a flat spot
alone and the Dynomax and Borla universals I used for the rear both
maintained about the same improvement. I'll look for a SS Dynomax or Borla
to put in the center and leave it at that for my 200+ hp. For your 300 hp,
don't know. Talk to the tech guys over at Dynomax/Walker to get an idea.

HTH,

Steve

I received this nice system from Paul Fernandez (custom-auto-craft.com in
the UK). It is not just a rear muffler, but a work of art. It is a 2.5"
I.D. muffler and piping - polished stainless steel - beautiful.

Now I need to either source or build a 2.5" or even a 3" mid section -
between the cat and the rear section. Any good sources on this?

I'm wondering how restrictive 2.5" would be and how bad the stock cat
impedes flow. I measured the existing mid-section and that was 2" I.D. so
expect an improvement. I don't like to mess with removing the cat, but
perhaps there is a freer flowing unit that I ought to install. Since I am
building what is hoped to be a respectable engine for the car with expected
output over 300HP, I need to keep this in mind.

Perhaps sourcing and fabbing the center section may be the way to go - I do
fairly well with a MIG and it does not have to be very pretty. If there is
something available in the 2-300 range that is bolt on stainless, however
probably not worth my time to fab.

So what is everyone else doing replacement wise?

Ben

you can try custom-auto-craft.com. i got mine from ebay for $275. it was
only the rear section, but with the resonator cut out, it still sounded
nice.

Awhile back I recall seeing an exhaust system made for UrQ from a fellow
in GB. Anyone have contact info.

Any other recommendations for system replacement/upgrade.
