Having owned nothing but 4wd or awd cars for the last 15 years, I think
if you don't mind the understeer of urq while in it's unlocked state, it
was an unbelievable start. Some folks think the torsen center is less
predictable (than the us urq), and I agree, but I've driven it in a
different body style so not exactly apples to apples. The talon awd and
suby viscunt coupling I hated, you are better off with 2wd and traction
control. The early bmw I was not impressed with, haven't had a lot of
exposure to the newer style.
I was under the impression that the Porsche hydraulic clutch system for
awd was the best by far. I never drove one so.......
I think that's what the evolution of the world rally cars awd systems
came from, where they can tune the bias and lock on the fly
depending on conditions.
I did break the locker (it's made of plastic!!) on my rear diff on my
20v 200 but I had to try hard to do that. I drove it for like 5000
miles locked w/ much time on dry pavement, I couldn't believe how little
difference it made, I could really only tell in tight corners.
