... the sorts of things I'm referring to on the newer models ... wiring
looms in doors that have got the better part of 20 wires flexing (and
breaking) in the driver's door hinge ... internal "welded" grounding
points *inside* a wiring loom ... etc. etc. ... you'll never have to
worry about that sort of a problem in an urq!>>>>>>>>
Steve, I beg to differ. I have had to replace all the wires in my driver's
door because they were all cracked and broken from fatigue. I chose to
replace the entire harness into the door rather than splice.
The connectors on the '84 and '85 models (and the rare late '83 models)
seem much improved, especially at the fuse box. The wires also seem upsized
from their earlier counterparts. All the cars suffer from underhood issues,
such as poor grounding and poor connection to the air temp sender, but the
later cars seem to eliminate a lot more of the in-car issues.
Here's a question....I am not sure I know the answer..... do the later cars
suffer the same issues with the AC relays and fuel pump relays? I own a
handful of used early-style AC relays (the one in the glovebox) that I keep
as spares for the inevitable AC relay meltdown. And I have the entire
radiator fan system on a separate fuse box. I strongly disagree with
assertion that there is not much difference between the early and late
wiring systems.
