Many thanks to Jim, Brandon and Eric for their replies.
All seemed well yesterday. Gave the car a bit of a thrashing and no "lean" spells or stumbles.
Jim - yes, I had recently used an injector cleaner in the hope of curing the problem but I guess your suggestion was that the potion used probably freed off some muck that could be blocking an injector? The injectors are only about 2 years old but I take the point. It could well be the problem, hence the intermittent nature.
I think it's going to be like Brandons car - consistently inconsistent.
Eric, I have checked out the metering plate previously becuase that was my initial thought but didn't seem to be sticking.
Although I have not fixed the problem it has gone away for the moment but I can recommend one thing and that is to fit an air fuel gauge or at least fit the wiring and sensor so you can plug one in when problems need diagnosing. Without it it would have taken me ages to get to "ntermittent lean mixture" as opposed to an internittent electrical problem. Anyway I'll have to wait for it to occur again before I can try and fix it for good.
I guess I will eventually succumb to the overtures of the Bill Bennett 034efi PR Machine and ditch the CIS. All ways up it looks the way to go in the long term and I've yet to hear anything bad about it.
But thanks again you guys. Your input is much appreciated.
All the best
Keith
