Eric's former daily driver is now in my driveway, waiting that I pick the
goodies before it will be sent to the crusher.
The car is very nice cosmetically, no rust, shinny dark grey paint, all trim
parts in place. It looks like a professionally repainted car. The interior too
is complete, with the exception of the window regulators. Even the side pockets
are salvageable.
Now, it has 250 000 km, a leaky heater core, a frozen alternator, dead front
shocks, it smells gas, tappets are noisy, but otherwise it drives very nicely,
to my surprise. We drove it on its own power with my urQ's battery in place of
its dead one. The car was stopped by the dead alternator in June 2006. It
nonetheless started right up without any drama... just a good battery. Amazing.
For Eric and I, I will keep the dashboard, the door cards, the fusebox and the
wiring harness, hood, trunk, both doors, all the windows I can remove without
breaking them, wiper motors, grill and lamps, door lock pump and tubes, drip
rail black trim.
So before I forget something valuable, is there any mechanical component that I
should keep for an urQ ?
Fuel pump, accumulator or rack and pinion ?
Is the newish radiator a suitable "downgrade" for my non-AC urq ?
Is the AC compressor the same ?
What EFI and ignition bits are salvageable ?
Are the front springs worth something ?
The front A-arms ?
The sway bar ?
The front subframe ?
The front fenders and their liners ?
The starter ?
Anything else ?
Thanks in advance,
Louis-Alain
