Hi everyone,

I spend the afternoon with Eric LeFrancois, a newcomer to Audifans that owns
a 1985 urQuattro, no sunroof. Eric bought the car nearly 3 years ago (a high
miler that sat in a field for a few years), and spent a nice sum of change
to make the car right, but now he will need our help.

First, the good points:
the car is really nice, thanks to a high-quality paint job (STONE GREY
METALLIC), refurbished 8 inches Ronals with new rubber, a new lowered
suspension, and all the exterior trim pieces in the correct places. The car
rides nicely, no strange sounds, and the suspension is sporty without
harshness.

Second, the formerly bad points that are now good points :
The fuel tank was cleaned and internally coated, both subframes have new
bushings, the AC is rebuilt, the oil pan and the water pump are new. The
clutch is brand new, and he installed a firewall/Clutch Master Cylinder
bracket for the obvious reason.

Third, the bad points :
The engine has no power, the CIS (the fuel injection system) is a mess, the
infamous 4000 rpm cutout is there, some electrics don't work, the WUR
(warm-up regulator) is not properly set, the vacuum routing is "creative",
to say the least. I am pretty sure the hose from the IC (intercooler) to the
igloo (the air filter dome), you know the expensive one, is probably dead.
The muffler is from a 4000Q, judged from the size of the tailpipes. The
frequency valve was dead quiet, until we played with the mixture a lot.

As you can see, there is still work to do before Eric can enjoy his car. I
know some of you will suggest the 034EFI route, but for now he just wants to
have his car back on the road without commissioning a big modification.
Maybe later.

For now, and before asking this list for specific help, there is a lot of
basic maintenance points to cover, air leaks being the most important,
followed by a thorough cleaning/checking of all the electrical parts for the
engine.

So, enough for tonight, please welcome Eric among us and wish him good luck
chasing the urQuattro gremlins !

Louis-Alain,
Whose Quattro is going very well, thank you. The only failure this winter
was a cracked washer fluid reservoir !
