[urq] Coincidence or just plain stupid ?

I would think the opposite would be true of exhaust temps. Shouldn't
Acetone decrease the combustion temperature due to the more efficient
burning? Could be your em is not getting as hot as previously and
therefore does not re-seal itself to the head due to the lack of
heat-related expansion of the componentry.

Anyone???

Subject: [urq] Coincidence or just plain stupid ?

I've added 0,25% Acetone added to my fuel (200 ml per full tank) and
drove approx. 2000km with it, def. noticing some (but not vast)
improvement in throttle response, low RPM torque and fuel economy.

Unfortunately, just days before MOT, the exhaust manifold has become
noisy and is blowing somewhere near the head surface. I'm not sure where
exactly and can't tell if it's warped or cracked, if a EM gasket is
blown or if it's just a loose or snapped EM stud. The RH engine mount is
sound as far as I can tell (oil sump/subframe clearance is perfectly
horizontal).

So either way the EM (including IM, Turbo + downpipe and perhaps Head)
has to come off and needs inspection (doom scenario of broken studs >
head removal > cracked head upon R&R > brrrrrr....)

Could there be a relationship between the two? Acetone increases exhaust
heat due better combustion and could be the final blow on the already
weakened EM ??

...or is it just coincidental and impossible for Acetone to warp/crack
EM's or blow gaskets in such manner ??

PS the EM and head etc. has been replaced at 80K km back in late 1989 as
part of a total enige rebuild by the first owner due a blown oil cooler
hose.
