I, too, of course am discouraged by these recent actions. But of all the
times we've talked about NLA parts yada yada yada have we ever come up
with a good master list? I think it's safe to say we all know the '83
ball joints are an issue - but really, we should create a good,
accurate, up to date list of the parts (w/ P/N and model year
applicabilty) and then in another column note a good substitute and
or/cross reference to another manufacturer's p/n or application ( ie
like the bomb x-ref's w/ an '83 bmw 733i I guess). As much as I follow
this stuff, I can't think of much on my '84 that is a big worry....not
sure if that's because parts have gone NLA since I bought them a year or
two ago - like sway bar bushings, or b/c '84 has much better parts
availability or maybe I'm just "asleep at the wheel"....
Once we realize what the big problem parts are maybe we can get some
manufacturers to make runs???? For instance, for NLA bushings -
whatever they may be- I wonder what it would take to get Energy
Suspension to do run for us. They may even have stuff that will work
already...
Thoughts?

Subject: [urq] What is everyone's opinion about Audi's parts house
cleaning?
Is this the start of the creation of a proper department to make old
parts or is this an abandonment of support for their older cars?
I personally think and suspect that its the later, which of course is
quite infuriating. If not, why not just start creating those parts
which are NLA and in demand. We all know what they are.
It makes no sense to sell off all old stock which is exactly what one
wouldn't do if they were going to launch full support for older cars.
I also question Audi's handling of the parts dispatch. Essentially only
in German and to members of ACI which is largely a German only club
now. I'm a member of ACNA and I don't think ACNA was even give fore
warning of this move.
The current available parts will go to those in a position to buy the
parts with purely speculative goals in mind thus merely creating a more
oportunistic middle man to barter out a limited supply of parts to a
growing demand.
Quite frustrating and really making me ANTAGONISTIC towards Audi right
now.
