Case in point, I got my drivers license in what year? Wild
guesss.....1983, now I own my dream car from then and I didn't have to
pay 2 million...of course it wasn't quite mint.

And it's sentiment and 'irrational exuberance' that are driving the
demand side of the equation. Guys want to buy a mint version of the car
they either drove or dreamed of driving when they were younger. Once
the baby boomers are gone, the values of many of these 'Merican Muscle
Cars will fall through the floor faster than you can say Hades...

... while some or all of what you mention may be true, in point of fact
none of it matters. It all comes down to supply and demand, and cars
really aren't that much different than most other collectibles.

The cars are selling for as much or as little as they are because you
have a buyer willing to pay that much for it and a seller that won't
take any less.

Carroll Shelby is (or was given his recent attempts) a good marketer.
He convinced Hertz to buy a bunch of his GT350 models and got his
product out and visible to the public ...

One thing that I think is worthy of highlighting in what I mentioned
above ... in some part the resale values on our babies is low because we
owners are willing to let them go for a bargain. Of course we
contribute to the other side as well when we're not willing to pay the
asking price for the cars ... and I readily admit that I'd be hard
pressed to pay what I would ask for my car should I decide to sell ...
