[urq] Front fender: too short ?

Hi there,
Eric's car is back from the body shop and it is nice looking again. It
took so long because Eric wanted a new fender and door sill, but the
fender had to be sourced from Audi Germany (1 month delivery time). The
sill (new) was found in Nova Scotia, thanks to a lister with a 1986
needing some extensive bodywork....
However, when it arrived, the fender was clearly 1/2" too short compared
to the old one ! How come ? There was a production date of 02/2005 on a
tag, and the proper VAG part number tag. Anyone has an explanation ?
So the bodyman decided to repair the crushed fender, to a level that
even someone in the know wouldn't be able to say which one was repaired.
Very nice job. Better still, he asked 400$ (instead of 1200$ for the new
part) for his metalworking talents.
Now, the last part of the restoration will begin, as the seats have been
repaired, G60 brakes are waiting for install, and a set of VDO boost/oil
pressure/air-fuel ratio gauges will find place in the radio slot.
Radiator and oil cooler shrouding are the last bits to be installed in
the engine bay.
Cheers,
Louis-Alain
