Not cheap , but a carbon hood with vents etc. from the sport hood and to fit our Urq's... I am glad for the chance... Stephen

$250?!? Who Cares?! Just tell 'em to make the freakin' things?!?! :-)

Seriously, I think if more people were interested, they would have piped up
by now. Plus, with all the SUPER delay's of the Bergeron deal (has ANYONE
heard from him?) and with the current delays/changes, it more likely that
people are going to be less than excited about ponying up the cash this
  time.

Bergeron has about $3000 of other people's money at this point. Maybe
someone should give him the option of throwing that into "The Pot" to make
  things right?

Ben "REALLY wants a hood" Howell

You have been sent this email because you have put down deposits on
carbon fiber Sport type hoods for type 85 Audis. If you are on the
list, but don't have a deposit in, let me know. Also let me know, if
you know someone who put in a deposit (which has not been refunded) who
  is not on the list

I just got off of the phone with Ed Kowbel with Automekanika. As I am
sure you are aware of by now, the hoods did not get produced by Five
Star Bodies in WI as originally arranged. We never did get a good
reason for why they quit the job, but we believe that it was quoted too
low and we waited too long to get the project going. Whatever the case,
they are not building the hoods. The model hood was then shipped to
Modified in CA, but their quote was deal killing high. Now Fiber
Images in CA has quoted the hood, and it willing and able to build
them. This is the company that I had hoped we would go with from the
  start.

Now the bad news. Fiber Images quote for the hoods is about $250 more
per hood than the original price agreed upon with Five Star, due to the
complexity of the hood , etc. Considering that Five Star ended up not
building the hoods, I would say that Fiber Images' quote is reasonable,
especially considering that their competition quoted it for $400 more.
So, here is the situation. Four people have now backed out of the deal
and received their deposits back. If you wish to back out now, it is
totally understandable and Ed is more than willing to return your
deposit. If you wish to stay in, it is going to cost another $250 at
delivery (not now, unless we don't find some more buyers). We also
need to find four more people to purchase hoods to make up for those
that were lost as there is no longer enough money in the coffers to pay
the 1/2 down Fiber Images needs.. If we don't find more buyers and/or
aren't willing to put in more money the deal is pretty much dead. Ed
wants to make this happen, but it makes no sense to do it if he is going
to lose money on the deal. I haven't bounced this off of Ed yet, but
perhaps we could charge more for "new" hood buyers to offset the costs.
The thing is, I don't know if there will be much interest at $1500.

Want we need to know ASAP is if you are still in for a total price of
$1250 + shipping from CA. It cost $125 to CO when I got a B4 hood from
Fiber Images, and $150 to Chicago. East coast would be higher
obviously, and they can bundle shipments. We have at least four going
to Chicago (probably Ed's shop), four going to CO and the rest I think
are individual. Next we need to find more people interested, or else
put more money in. I am all for the former.

For those of you who do not know Fiber Images, they have made a lot of
CF hoods, trunks, you name it, for Audis. They recently made a run of
B4 80/90 hoods that were absolutely stunning. Those hoods were much
less money, but they did a higher quantity with a much less complex
design and built off of a stock, off the shelf hood, not a hood that had
to come from Germany and worked to a high degree to be suitable to make
a mold from.. There is some mark up on the hoods for Ed, but that is
only going to cover his investment in the project. Personally, I don't
think that there is any way to duplicate these hoods and get them to the
US for any less. If we did 100 of them in Taiwan maybe, but not in the
  US or Europe.
