Bonjour louis alain,
I switched from the single to the twin 4000 style cables so I should
still have this lever if it is not reused....i don't remember much about
that swap.
I just rebuilt a front single piston aluminum caliper, the time to torch
the screw is prior to attempted removal, my when I did the other caliper
however that screw broke despite the heat, tried a lot of screw
extraction techniques to no avail and wound up drilling it out and
retapping, I think those are the fat bleeder screws so you need a
helicoil or if you can find a fatter bleeder screw or just use a regular
screw with an oring and teflon which will work but you lose the
convenience of the hollow bleeder.
My caliper was frozen, the dust boot ripped, the rebuild is easy, just
the piston seal and the dust boot. Use compressed air to remove piston
from caliper if you want to do a complete rebuild while it's out.

Subject: [urq] Parts needed:
Anyone has the "compensating lever" that connects the handbrake to the
single rear brake cable ? Part number is 861 711 399. (just 20.00, but
NLA...). And for us with the old style rear suspension who needs brake
cables, we are screwed: NO brake cables are still available at VAG,
either the single or the twin separate cables. One more nail in the
coffin of the early Quattro...
Also, I need a 150C oil temp gauge, the early style with the "flat"
scale (Coupe or 4000, 81-84). Actually, I have a 170C gauge, and that's
why the readings are highish (130-140C). Anyone has one for sale ?
Thanks in advance,
Louis-Alain
