OK, just needed to share this.  Thanks to much good info from the list,
I set a record for removing subframe bushings AND doing my clutch slave.
I think I managed to do both jobs in a little over 90 min!  The drilling
and prying trick, made the bushings cake.  The clutch slave descriptions
took the mystery out of that one.  Not being able to see is not so bad
when you know exactly how it all goes together.  Thanks guys.
