Hi David,
The tires, as well as the oleo-type shocks on most jets are charged with nitrogen, which has favorable compressibility and flamability characteristics. The extremes in temperature between cold at high altitude, and the intense heat from maximum braking require a very stable gas charge. Same deal with race cars. It would be an interesting experiment to see if it changes the ride quality on an Urq.
