[urq] Intermittent no start

This seems to be a trait of the "big bertha" starter. I just recently bought an '83, and it does exactly the same thing. Heat is the culprit. As I see it, you have 2 options... either replace bertha with the newer small starter, or install some heat shielding over the solenoid. Jumping the solenoid will make it work, but that isn't exactly a real solution.

Subject: [urq] Intermittent no start
Hi there,
Twice in the last month, my car refused to re-start when stopped for a
short period after highway. The first time I bump-started it easily, the
second time I had to wait 5 minutes and it catch normally.
What is the cause of this behaviour ?
Starter (the 1983 original "big bertha") has been rebuilt 3 years ago,
the ignition switch seems to work fine (I was hearing the click-click of
the hot start pulse relay during the attemps), wiring is tight but
dirty.
Thanks in advance,
Louis-Alain

PS: an overpass fell on an highway near my home yesterday, 5 persons are
dead, 6 more fell in the hole. I've passed under that overpass less than
1 hour before the accident (heading to Tremblant for the NEQ event).
Sometimes, you just feel lucky.
