[urq] Seat belt retractor: do's and don'ts question

I am catching up on all the little things I have to do before the
winter...

The driver's side seat belt is a little "slow" now, so I want to
lubricate the mechanism to give it a new life. 

Can I do it? Should I do it? What is a good lubricant for this?

When I read about this in various sources, they always say "don't mess
with it, just replace it".
