... on my car that bracket is over the fuel tank cover ... the sunroof stows on the stationary part of the top of the trunk in front of the lid.  

Nonetheless, I found I had to let the air out of my full size wheel (7" Fuchs w/215-50 15 tires to be able to latch the trunk lid ... 

FWIW, my car is an '83 model.
