That will not make a difference.  

It does sound like the incorrect sensor part number ... the behavior sounds like what you would get if you had the sensor that works with a gauge.  Make sure that you're looking in TFA for the correct model year ... later years may well have switched back to a gauge.  

Note that this sensor is not a switch as I saw noted in another post ... it is a thermistor, only it is one with a positive temperature coefficient (i.e. the resistance goes up with temperature).
