Following up on Mike DelTergo's proposal of a few weeks ago to hold the UPG event this Fall, here's more on Foreign Car Day at the Owl's Head Transportation Museum in Owl's Head, Maine, on Sunday, October 8, 2006.

The Owl's Head Transportation Museum (OHTM) in Owl's Head Maine, just south of Rockland, Maine, is a rather eclectic car and plane museum. In addition to a constantly changing display of cars, many of them curiosities, the museum owns and flies, weather permitting, three or four of its WWI aeroplanes, which I think are mostly authentic reproductions, including a S.P.A.D., a Nieuport, a Fokker triplane (think "Red Baron") and a British AN-1, a pusher prop with the reproduction and hopefully non-functioning machine gun at the nose. The triplane in particular appears to be able to stop in flight and just float overhead; no doubt something of an optical illusion, but pretty impressinve non the less; and yes, castor oil is a key engine lubricant. The museum is located on the grounds of the Owl's Head airport, and they just crank up the planes and fly them off the grass. Parking for the display cars is on part of the tarmac and I have ensure that admission is free for Audis (ACNA, Urquattro Registry, and UPG members).

As in most prior years, it's on the Sunday of the Columbus Day weekend. The event has an Oktoberfest theme, with live "oom-pa" music and Oktoberfest food, and they would love to see a group of urquattros--they really would. We could even give them a script to tell other attendees about the cars (history, rarity, etc). There are a number of restaurants in the area from modest to expensive in the Rockland area, and most of us enroute would pass by the Beer Garden Restaurant in Topsham if anybody wants authentic German fare.

It's also foliage season along the Maine coast, so stayover reservations should be made a bit early, as well as dinner reservations if folks wanted to have dinner before the drive home. I also expect to promote this event to the NAAC, and while it probably won't be a formal NAAC event, some other Audi owners might show as well.

If there is interest this is usually a great event, if the weather cooperates a great drive, if poor weather plenty to do and see indoors pretty much for free! There will be no gourmet fare but we could work around it if there was enough interest. Destination would be about 2 hrs 40 for the majority of you that would enter the state from the south.
