OK - That confirms what I thought. Porsche did a good job, but it could have
been better, wonder why they didn't just shorten the core a little since there
is already a lot of volume and surface area as well as flowthru.
Anyway - my line of questioning is not about intercooler design, efficiency,
etc., but how do I mount this puppy or something else. If I am able to use
this unit, then I can have it modified. If it weren't for the shallow
placement of the front grille, this unit would actually fit right up in front
of the engine providing I cut a section out of the hood catch stanchion in the
middle.
Also have an AAN unit and 2Ctq20v setup, and some others to try. Seems there
is little places to put any of these. I noticed that even the stock unit goes
over into the wheel well which may not allow much more use of that option.
I may need to look at taking a few short cores with custom end caps and
connecting them in series. Again removal of the AC is not an option - I'd
rather sacrifice power.

Just remember that the stock 951 intercooler needs to be modified to increase
its efficiency. Lindsey racing sells them, but Jim Green did a nice job
replicating the Lindsey mods when he had a 951 IC on his 90.
http://www.lindseyracing.com/pics/stages.jpg - The top intercooler there is
stock. Notice the left side end tank vs the other two versions left side tank.
Huge gains to be had. That tank was a sacrifice by Porsche for packaging
reasons.
