[urq] West Coast UPG GTG This Year?

Actually I would be interested in coming...just depends on dates and my
schedule. I made the drive out there in the S8 last month. I don't think the
Urq has quite the creature comforts. If I come I'd most likely fly to San
Diego and pick up the S8.
Reno/Virginia City area could be cool.
You certainly know the Bay Area better than I do all my time out there has
either been in the city or trying to find a room...any room in San Jose
during the silicone gold rush days.
Btw: traffic in Guerneville was actually pretty light when I was there last
month. In the fall, around harvest time, I would expect a mad house and
probably higher room rates.
I also like the Idea of Monterey/Salinas. The drive down to Big sur is
incredible - fog willing. I'll bet anything in that area is already booked
for the Historic Race weekend. How big is your garage?

... funny, when I saw a reply from Bruce I was thinking that something
around Lake Tahoe might pique the interest of listers in Colorado ... and I
wasn't specifying Squaw Valley/Incline Village ... I'm thinking Reno, the
"South Shore" ... hey, maybe Virginia City! Do they do the VC hill climb
any more? There are a lot of really nice out of the way places in Alpine
County, south of Tahoe ...
As to the cost of accommodations, there's going to be expensive places and
cheaper places in the "SF Bay Area" ... it is a big place. I'd bet if we
selected some place down near Monterey ... say Salinas ... we might be able
to find more reasonable accommodations ... and Marina is certainly possible
for a place to have fun. The Historic Races are August 17-19 ... ALMS will
be there in mid-October ... probably a bit late in the year.
Last year we took our family vacation up to the Fort Bragg area and came
back through Santa Rosa and Guerneville ... traffic and construction were
horrendous!
All this is just my tuppence ... if the will of the people is to go to some
place in Guerneville, I'd be there ...

Thanks Bruce!
You're right about a Bay Area g2g - I had planned to stay with my folks in
Tiburon if that happened, but I had not thought through the need for decent
accomodations with safe parking for the other out-of-towners...Oops.
Similarly, Tahoe is probably gangbusters year round now that I think of it.
I still like the idea but have no idea of costs at all.
I like this Guernville idea; Any idea what the price range per night is at
this place? The location sounds great. I'm a coast-junkie myself, so
anything close to the beach gets extra points with me, salty air or not!
