It probably means your're not going fast enough. Cure it by pressing down
hard with your right foot until you start to hear pace notes being read by
your imaginary co-driver, you slot in to the groove with arms full of
opposite lock, using a snow bank to keep you on the racing line as you
hurtle through the forest, and cross the line having posted fastest time on
the stage. Wonderful.... you can be Hannu Mikkola!
Anyway - back to the speedo - probably just sticking inside against the
outer cable. Take it off (both ends) hang it vertically and allow
penetrating oil to run down inside over night - and as it says in all good
manuals : replacement is the reverse of removal! (except it usually takes
twice as long). Good rule of thumb - Two beers to remove and four to refit.
All the best

which will require you to pull the Instrument cluster. Likely the
secondary (odometer) drive gear is split. You need to replace this gear or
the entire speedometer.

could have been affected is the ABS operation or the brake pad wear
indicator sensor that reports to the autocheck system.

brake pads and vented rotors were changed out, the sensor cable cut off from
the pads. Sensor connection on car no longer available. Odometer was working
before work was done to change brakes. Speedometer, tachometer function, the
ododmeter does not work. Electrical sender to the speedometer unit.

Told by mechanic that there were different diameters of rotors for the same
year, earlier years did not have vented rotors, Quattros had different
rotors than non-Quattros. 11" diameter rotors.
