Guys-
Well I'm having a local fabricator do up a custom IC for me. After my
issues with the alternator when I had the 944T IC in there ( I still have
A/C - kinda - crappy R134 ) I decided I would pursue a bigger IC that
allowed the alternator to remain in stock location. I did some lookin' and
figurin' - and it looked like a thicker IC could extend forward on the outer
side of the IC, and extend rearward on the inner end - especially with use
of a shorter alt belt. Keep in mind I'm using an RR alternator bracket on
the 3B block - so I went from 840mm to 815mm length. My new core is 12L x
6.8H x 4.5D, vs. 12L x 5.5H x 2.5D for stock WX (both bar/plate) so same
length hence no need to move alternator - however I've been running an RR IC
since the 3B conversion - its dimensions are 12 x 6.5 x 2.5 tube/fin. So it
flows a little more than WX IC. Per Bell's site, this new core should flow
a good 500 CFM whereas the RR IC was closer to 275 CFM. I have a few
in-progress pics if anybody is interested - I think I'll post them up at
Motorgeek soon. Obviously this is not the way to go for the guys that want
monsters - which has never been my goal for this car - just more reliably
starting, consistent power, slight increase in power - and this IC will
hopefully optimize performance some more, while staying in my parameters.
3B motor is stock save RS2 EM and turbo and running about 22 psi.
