Oooops! I intended to post this one earlier ...

Here's the feedback from my buddy about the area around KC ...
==========
Hmmm... things that make you want to come to KC? Bar-b-que is about the
only thing we've got to attract folks! :-)

Topeka, KS, about 1.5 hours away has Heartland Park raceway. Nice road
course.
The track is also the location for the SCCA runoffs. I've tracked my MINI
Cooper there a couple of times and hope to take my Cobra out there next
week.

Closer in is the Kansas Speedway, a large oval track used by NASCAR.

A couple of groups do autocross at The Woodlands (a dog racing track)
parking lot and at the Royals parking lot.

Frankly there simply isn't a lot of car-related stuff around Kansas City.
There are attractions like the WWI memorial and museum but no car stuff.

St. Louis has Gateway raceway that combines an oval track with a road course
in the infield. Just a week ago I was at the track with my Cobra for the
yearly Run & Gun event (replica and homebuilt cars). All sorts of Cobras, 6
cylinder Lotus 7 replicas, GT40s, a Ferrari P4 replica, and a bunch of
Lister-looking Dragons. The general manager of the track is a good fellow
to work with and I could dig up his contact information if you want.

I sent a message to my friend who lives near KC for his thoughts ...
including venues we might be able to rent for a group session ...

My general response to this thought is that those of us on the extreme
coasts do need to think about compromise a bit for those on the opposite
coast ... or else this may not work. Also, consider that if it takes a
marathon 2 day drive to get there it's going to take another one to get
back. My thinking is to make the drive there part of the event ... Those of
us coming from California will certainly have plenty of opportunity for
scenic and enjoyable drives on the way there and back. Depending on how
things work out, I might even be willing to drive north a bit to hook up
with a PNW contingent ...

I'm in for up to 2 days drive, but I'm much less inclined to drive 2 hours
to Kansas City.....needs to be somewhere interesting. Is there a resort on
the great lakes that would be worth visiting.... I don't know the center of
the country much.....
