[urq] (Off Topic) UPG 2008 Planning (OT)

Oh, I
I LOVE the HD's. If find on rought roads they are a dream. Rough yes, but
soft dampers allow the suspension to bottom to easy. I'm not what you would
call a "Delicate" driver. I drive my 4ktq like I stole it.

But I definitely need taller springs. And I learned recently that
apparently the ur-q upper spring perches are lower "Higher" IE...they lower
the car, as compared to 4ktq perches. So while I have the bigger brakes,
5-bolts, etc from an ur-q, I'm lower because of the upper perches.

The 90q spring trick works well. I tried that for a while. I have seen an
ur-q with 4kq front springs in the back and it was TALL. I may try
something like that in the rear and in the front....I don't know yet. I
could try the Cadillac Fleetwood springs that the Tim Oniel rally school
uses on their rigs. Long and soft enough.

But to be honest, on these roads to soft a spring and shock wont work. You
just bottom on everything. My favorite suspension for Rough Roads that I
ever has was the Coilovers I USED to have on this car "Now on my White 83'
ur-q with cage". I had 10" Springs 325f/275r rates. It was marvelous. I
could take massive bumps at speed and not bottom, it was fun on pavement, I
had about as much travel as stock but was lifted for more clearance. And
weight transfer to the front was great allowing serious bite from the front
tires coming into dirt corners. You could really hook up in the dirt with
that suspension.

I'm just not sure if I want to deal with Coil-Overs again. But maybe its
the best thing for here. I am running FRONT shocks on my rear though as
they are slightly softer than the Rear ur-q shocks, and slightly longer.

Thanks for the thoughts
