Martin, we agree! When I worked the TSD rally at O-fest 99, there were 26
cars running, out of 250 at the event. So the many met up and hung out during
that specific activity, but there were activities to do by choice.
Steamboat is hanging out with quattro freaks, it's why I put the event on to begin
with. And there is plenty of time to talk, laugh and make friends, it's what
makes the event have value to participants. And we go to dinners, gather,
wrench, trek to hot springs, and drive on ice. Best of both worlds.

Ed, what makes Avis better than Hertz is value. You can go to any ACNA
event and hang out (Hertz)! I see the value in the ur-qfest as doing something
exclusive to the spirit and intent of the grand touring car that made the
marque. The pinnacle of the Event can be a Saturday afternoon Parc Ferme after a
brisk TSD rally, or the autocross, or the show and shine. But I see no
value in convincing a guy to travel 1000 miles or 2000 miles to just hang out,
but my point is exactly, he certainly can! Those that want to do just that can
make Saturday, or hang out with the others during the day. I see our grand
touring cars differently. It's not that you just own one, it's what you do
with it that counts. Make that have value, you have desire, and
participation.

And, if you choose to just hang out, neither the active or the passive
participants are missing out on anything. Win/win for all.

I know this works, because I actively organize and work motorsport events,
and have for a long time. Participation is optional... Value isn't optional,
wherever the venue. PP didn't detract from a GTG, neither did Monterey, nor
migrating to Mosport Park, neither does Steamboat Ice Track event, heck
neither does an ACNA track event!

I think you guys have this backwards. Picking your personal involvement is
the value to *you*. The choices of those picks can be much more valuable to
all.

Scott,

I have to disagree.. another event like Indy would just take away from the
purpose of this gathering.
This is why I loved the events at Felixes. A nice quiet venue with no one
else around but Ur-quattro freaks.
One weekend is not a long time, especially if you have to drive all the
way there.. to piggyback another event is just not worth it. I would not
be interested in anything else other than talking with the guys and
getting to know them as "friends" rather than pay attention to something
else.

Don't get me wrong, Steamboat etc etc, those events have their time and
place. Us CDN guys do the Mosport weekend for the AMLS jsut to have an
"excuse". A UPG even should remain an Ur-q only event with no other
distructions.

Just my $0.02 CDN with is now on par with $0.02 US :)
