[urq] FW: [urquattro] New poll for urquattro - urq26

The BMWMOA (Motorcycle Club) has one big to-do every year that moves all around North America ... some folks will ride there no matter what (I wonder how many here know what a 50CC is? - Hint it isn't an RC engine displacement :) The BMWMOA model intrigues me ... but at this point I'm not sure it is practical. I don't believe it is out of the question that we can do something every year ...

As to the distribution of the cars about the continent ... I know that there are some down in Texas, and I'd expect there still to be some in Minnesota ... KC perhaps? ... perhaps Bill Bremer maintains some sort of location distribution list.

Your idea of an east/west scenario is more or less what I was thinking too ... with the folks on one side of the continent figuring out when and where for themselves ... and those of us out the western side of the continent doing likewise. I tried to drum up interest in a northern California urq event stealthily in the background ... to dismal results ... and that is another thing that precipitated the creation of the poll.

I think it would be cool to coordinate any set of multiple events so that if there are crazy folks (ya think?) who wanted to meet the challenge of attending all the events it wouldn't be completely out of the question. Who knows, maybe other corners of the continent might decide to put their own celebration together ... say southern US and north-eastern US/Canada having separate events? Perhaps California and PNW might have separate events? My car is nearly to the point where I'd trust it to take me to the PNW ... and I might be convinced to venture east some distance ...

The one thing I think would be great would be to get some feedback from the folks who made the urq25 event happen ... how big a core team did you start with? How did you decide what sort of events to put together? Any suggestions to someone wanting to start the process from scratch?

Steve, I lean towardsseparateeast / west events run by the locals in that particular area, I logged in and voted accordingly.

I started thinking, and with the exception of Rob Dupree and James Bufkin, I dont recall a single UrQ east of Denver or west of Chicago...

Im sure there are a couple still in Minnesota but we haven't heard from them in years. The guys closest to the middle are the ones that really make out since they can point the car in either direction.

The Porsche Parade changes sides each year, in fact it's in Keystone Colorado in '09, I know I'll be attending, but last year it was in Charlotte.

Every year there is "a Mini vacation in Las Vegas" 500 Mini's converge in Vegas, from all corners of the country.

Those are just a couple examples that work for other clubs...

Regardless of where it's held, it's very important for a gathering like this to happen more often than every 5 years.

Im as guilty as anyone else that attended UrQ25 for not writing an article for the quarterly, or any other magazine. Although we got some coverage on AW and Fourtitude if we were in the mainstream print it would have done wonders for the recognition of our cars. Did we all just assume that someone else would write it? I did. Is it too late? I dunno.

Anyway, Im just as excited about having an event in 2009 as I was for UrQ25.
