I'm not certain as to the original designation of the head I recently
installed, but it was a brand new (not rebuilt) head set up at the factory with
valves & cam. It is a long tail head with aggressive cam lobes. I was lead to
believe by some it was a "WR" head. Someone is still selling a few on e-bay.
The bell housing end of the head is quite different from the WX or other
common 10V heads. This means that this nice cam will not work in any other head,
and the valve cover, gasket and distributor will _not_ interchange. I was
lucky to find a distributor for it locally. The dizzy was for a NA motor using
vacuum advance etc. The gear was very different in that it was a larger
diameter gear and higher on the shaft. Fortunately, the internal bore size and pin
location are the same. I therefore just swapped the gear onto a WX dizzy. I
also had to source a long tail valve cover and gasket. The shield/mount for
the injector cooling fan sensor will also no longer mount to the head.
So far I have been very impressed with the performance of this head/cam
combo. Good low end, and does not flatten at high RPM, and boost comes on strong.
One issue I am uncertain about is whether this head has sodium filled
valves. That shouldn't be a problem as I'm doing a heart transplant very soon to a
20V so this is temporary.
Enjoying it immensely in the meantime! It's amazing how well an un-cracked
well sealed head with new guides and seats will start.
