Stephen,
The brake main circuit includes the clutch circuit, 4 calipers and the
clutch slave cylinder and uses blue/yellow/clear brake fluid. Both master
cylinder drinks fluid from the rectangular plastic yellow reservoir on top
of the brake master cylinder. This setup is on the driver's side of the car,
directly above the bomb.
The power assist circuit provides assistance to the brake circuit and to the
steering rack. The reservoir is on the firewall at the center of the car.
The 1983 uses a steel container, 1984 and up uses a yellow plastic container
with a black cap. My urq 1983 uses red ATF fluid. This ATF doesn't mix with
the other. The only way to check for level is to depress the brake pedal
until hard and check fluid in the firewall plastic reservoir.
Now, is the 1985 urQ the same as a 1983 (ATF)? Or does it uses the green
Pentosin fluid, as found on later Audis ? Someone should know that better
than me. If ATF, then the shop made no mistake.
Let us know,
Louis-Alain
