[urq] Leather Hide Sources

great timing. I finally pulled the urq out of storage last week, and quickly remembered how bad the front seats are. So I stopped into the local leather dude who does a lot of work for the local hot rod scene. He first claimed he should be able to get original seat covers from a supplier he uses for "other" german cars. Nope... nothing showed up. So he sharpened his pencil and proceded to take a couple of quick measurements and found a leather match.
  he quoted me <gulp> $3-4k for both fronts. My driver seat frame is tweaked and I have a spare full zebra interior I "thought" about redoing in leather. but NOT NOW !!!
   
  so plan "B" was to investigate using B5 S4 front seats. I'm guessing the rails are wildly different but something could be fabbed up. Wonder how pissed the wife will be when/if she see me pulling the set out of her B5 for a look-see. Someone locally had a new condition set of seats for sale (asking $500) recently. 
   
  Anyone know if the swap is possible ?

ur-q '85 interior? I have looked at a number of samples 

and while the color can be matched quite closely the 

grain is quite different. The hide used by Audi in the 

80s is very smooth compared with the hide samples

I have seen.
