I was recently screwing around on the Tower Hobbies website and saw they
_still_ sell the same RC dune buggy I had back in ~1986 - The Tamiya
Grasshopper (w/ "hop up" kit - ie bigger motor). I still have it but it's
in pieces and is fairly worn out....I also had a road car - Kyosho Plazma -
that thing was rippin' fast - used to drive it tennis courts. I recently
got the cobwebs off my RC sailboat and take it to a local park with my
almost 4yr old son - he loves it....I also have a bunch of old airplanes my
granddad built - they are prolly from the 60' and 70's - along with vintage
mustard yellow Kraft radios..

Tony, good to hear from you again!
I think we could start a whole new era of modded miniUrQs.
I got this thing a few weeks ago and it sparked my interest in RC cars
again, I still have a large bin full of toys form the old days lol

Mine was missing the transmitter/controller so I got it cheap. With no
standards to uphold, I got one of those basic R/C controller kits with a
electronic speed controller. A few hours with a dremel tool removed the old
guts and added digital proportional steering and braking. A few more cuts
allowed me to use a standard R/C battery pack, so I ran a charging connector
out
to the back trunk. I thought about doing an engine/chassis swap but the its
is
a funky size (1/12). One of these days I'll pimp it out with LED head and
tail
lights :D
I've also got a 1/10 Tamiya AWD R/C to go into one of those NLA S1 body
shells
from the group buy years ago. Just need the time and skills to paint the
body
correctly.

I know there are a handful of owners out there with the Radio Shack radio
controlled UrQ.
I just got one and its in great condition. I have a few questions about
battery combinations.
Is anyone using rechargeable batteries? In the trunk of the car there is
what looks like a plug to recharge the batteries, does anyone have the specs
on the charger? Maybe I could get a universal charger from Radio Shack and
use some modern rechargeable batteries?
Second, do I keep it stock and run the vintage Radio Shack livery? Or
repaint it to mach my Helios UrQ?? ;o]
Thanks y'all
