In response to Louis Alains' query about cracking open the heater core to track down the rattle, Stott had at it with a good sized Craftsman.  In each tube was what I would assume is a turbulence generater.  Think a solid firm strand of tinsel crimped at 90 degree angles every 2-3mm.  As they are solid and not anchored, if you should happen to shake them they will travel enough in the tubes to rattle!  Hope the replacement lasts as long as the original!
