I have Scalextric track
Some of it is 1977 vintage..... but most of it is falling apart now.
I also have some of the newer Scalextric Sport track which seems a bit more fragile.
 
I have heard that the New Scalextric track is considered too slippy by the crowd that spend ALL of their spare time with slot cars rather than doing something healthy with their spare time, like fiddlingwithtiredoldaudis for instance *cough* 
Apparently the standard cure for this is to give new track a good wash down with some alcohol to remove the oily production residue.
 
Other than that i think that the Carrera track is considered to be the serious amateur choice, but I’m not serious enough so don’t have my own opinion there.
