That sounds a bit like a vac leak before the fuel-plate, which is made worse when at altitude (read: more sensitive to leaks).
I would spray some ether in the throttle body to see if you have a fuel-side problem as could be the case, or if electrical. Pop that intake hose off the throttle body, spray in and then start with the hose back on. If it fires up right away it should have enough vac to keep the plate elevated and fuel flowing.
I think on my UrQ, when in Ingo's ownership period the rubber bumper stop thingy below the plate wore a hole through the plate and trapped it in the no-fuel position. Also a no start, quasi-vac thing...
If no start, then go down the spark path. Find someone to crank whilst you do the screwdriver shank to metal gap test at the end of a spark wire.
