[urq] Who's got the best BTDT write-up for adjusting door latches and specifically the exterior trigger?

It's been our experience that inside the catch mechanism there is a sliding
plate along the back side that moves up and down when the door is locked. It
gets gummed up and then when you open the door and it is still in the locked
position; it starts to bend/break the delicate linkage on the trigger
mechanism that goes around either side of the door lock. You can tell if the
plate is sticking by locking the car and pulling the trigger. If it comes
all the way back to the handle then the sliding mechanism is free. If you
feel pressure half way; then the slider is sticking which will eventually
put too much stress on trigger and one of the arms will break. Spray the
catch mechanism with WD-40 occassionally (not oil-based lubricants; they
attract dirt) to make sure that slide does not begin to stick..........HTH
