I'm late to this party, but your symptoms and the onset sound E-X-A-C-T-L-Y like how my 911C4 started dying on the road to Steamboat. In that case it was definitely ignition side problems and luckily that car has twin ignition systems because it's two-plug head design.
After exhausting all ideas from my Porsche shop back in Houston (I was in Kansas at the time) I swapped the center coil-leads on the caps from side A to side B and the car started running smooth again.
The actual fix was the ignition module in my case, but I did caps, rotors, wires and coils while I was at it.
I hope you're fixed. I say grab an ignition module, grab a coil, cap and rotor just to be safe and sure.
