Sean,
Looks like I missed a whole lot of the batter on the list about the canceled event, and honestly I'm probably not going to read it.

As on of the Urq26 organizers, I can tell you they we are as disappointed as anyone. You wouldn't believe the effort it took just to get to where we did. The thing is, this year we lost five of last year's crew at one time or another and three right off the bat. Our biggest sponsor, benefactor and driving force had a major unforeseen business change that effectively took him out just a few weeks ago. I had to bow out a month ago due to sudden family emergencies and business issues. As you guys all know, those working on the event are all volunteers with families, and the planning amounted to many hours each week.

Considering all the tasks that needed to be done, the time concerns and limited resources, there wasn't much choice but to cancel and put efforts into planning next year's event now. A LOT goes into making these events work. Weekly meetings, daily phone calls and emails, lots of paperwork and contracts, accounting, trips to CO Springs to meet with people and scout venues, etc. The possibility of Audi marketing involvement ultimately just served to be a time wasting distraction.

All that said, there is no reason why there couldn't still be a get together on those dates in Colorado Springs. It just can't be all that we had planned. There is no reason why there can't be a dinner at a restaurant Friday and Saturday, people staying at the same hotel with an impromptu "show and shine" in the parking lot, group drives and a get together at the hill climb. The thing is, someone else is going to have to take the initiative and effort to get people together.

Guys, I have to say that the wind has left my sails over the cancellation of the Pikes Peak event.

A couple of facts: people already have a trip planned

people already have time scheduled off work

people have been working on their cars to get them ready for a trip

Why can't this just simply happen somewhere other than Pikes Peak. Hell, why can't it STILL happen at Pikes Peak.

I feared that the event was trying to be too big of a monster this year. I blew off registering for the Porsche Parade in Keystone CO this year in lieu of UrQ26.

Steve, I have to admit, I haven't been in touch with you about a left-coast event once the Pikes Peak event was announced.

I tried to be one of the people in-the-loop as far as planning Pikes Peak so that maybe there would be some coordination between other smaller scale events this year.

SO after all these "I"'s what does everyone else think?

Sean
