Wonderful write up Greg. You certainly made his day.
A few years ago I was at a quattro Owners Club meeting here in sunny England
and one of the regulars came in his Dialynx Sport quattro (500+hp 20v motor)
which he used as his daily driver but also competed in Hill Climbs and
Sprints. I jokingly asked him when he was going to take me for a run in it
and he threw me the keys. Naturally I thought he was the one now joking but
he wasn't. He just said take someone else with you because you'll need them
to watch the speedo for you! (The speedo was a little digital affair built
in to the tacho). So I took the wife of one of the other members and we set
off up the road at a steady 13amps. Then turning on to a road I knew well I
pressed the load pedal. My God!, awesome power. The corners came up soooooooo
quickly, and it was so twitchy compared with my urq. But what fun. I've
never driven anything so fast or powerful before or since. 7000rpm what a
sound. And he wasn't joking about watching the speedo. I didn't dare take my
eyes off the road and my passenger didn't make a sound - fear I think.
So I know just how that lad felt being loaned an urq for 1/2 an hour. Well
done you.
Regards
Keith
