[urq] 83 URQ 10v Backfire in throttle body ?

Air leaks, sure, but before chasing this difficult gremlin, please do
yourself a favor and check the basics :

- compression on all cylinders (maybe a valve is not sealing anymore?)
- timing belt positioning (might have slip a tooth)
- oil cap and oil dipstick in place (very big air leak, very easy to check)
- vacuum hoses and oil breather tubes in place. Visual check is enough for
now.

If all check good, then it may be an enrichment function that is not doing
its job. You'll need a CIS testing gauge set to pinpoint the bad component.

Or a bad ignition wire. You can test them with an ohmmeter, (resistance
value is in the IST documents, if you don't have them, ask us) and you can
remove the steel boot at the plug end by unwind it from the wire to check
the condition of the wire itself.

Does the engine pops and backfires even when the engine is hot ?

*I have had my 83 sitting for awhile in the driveway, and went out to start
it and the battery was dead. Charged it up and moved it into the garage.
Problem is is pops and backfires through the throttle body. I checked the
air intake temp sensor and the wires are ok. I cleaned it , but no changes.
Swapped the plugs, rotor, still no changes. Any ideas on where to look for
the problem ? Thanks - Tim*
