 Kinda true. As I read the rules here:

C4C the engine must be made functionally useless (a specific procedure using slilicone glass is used).? The the title is also stamped, identifying it as a CARS.gov Restricted Title...? .? Once CARS payment has been received for that VIN, the vehicle can be released for salvage/recycling, but the 180 day death clock starts.? The vehicle can go to a licensed auto-recycler/upull-it etc, but the vehicle must be crushed or shredded within 180 days of a released vin.

On my trip to Denver last week, I saw a CARS holding yard full of vehicles waiting to be released.? I noticed a lot of Audis, as well as some other fine looking machines.? In my local Chicago u-pull-it yards, the average turn-over is less than a month anyhow, so this doesn't affect my 'shopping' all that much.
