Subject: [urq] Watkins Glen historic festival ?

Hi again,

Anyone will attend this marvellous week-end ? I'll be there with Brady, me
in a E250 motorhome and Brady in his 240Z, or maybe the urQ, for the 3 days.

I'm not involved in this in any way, but after being there twice, it is
still a grandiose event, especially the Friday afternoon when every racing
car passes through the village, on main street, at speeds that are not legal
for sure. Magic, simply.

I saw a car journalist friend last Monday, and I teased him with last year's
pictures. He was amazed by how many different cars were there, from a Lotus
Europa to an Allard to a Saab two-stroke to a Nascar stocker. Oh, I forget
the Lola T70, the Can-Am Mclarens, McGee and Ford GT40, the Aston-Martin DB4
racecar, the Morgans and the Porsche 962s. He even said to me that this
event looks even better than Goodwood Festival of Speed, which he attended
last July.

If you can't attend, and want to feel a bit of the magic, please try to find
a copy of Burt Levy's book, "The last open road", which is centered around
this event but in the 50's. I read and write a lot in a year, and this novel
is still in my memory, especially Buddy Palumbo and Tommy Edwards' famous
ride to deliver some racing Jaguars, on open roads, from New-York city to
Elkarth Lake, Wisconsin.

Will you be there ?

Louis-Alain
