QuattroPhille,
I'm just initiating a feeler for possible group purchase on a replacement for the most
troublesome Hydraulic Pressure hose, particularly on the earlier Ur Quattros.
This hose is the one that goes from the Hydraulic Pressure Accumulator (aka. Bomb) to
the Power Steering Rack. The hose at this timeframe has become extremely prone to
failure, mostly due to age and irregardless of mileage. I have had several used - known
good replacements fail and checked out why - they just are at the point where they start
to weep and sometime split open.
So I have spent a great deal of time on finding or making a suitable replacement and
even local hose shop make repairs to an original. I think I can now have this hose made
up for a reasonable price and so after all the R&D on this effort, figure I can source
this for listers made up like the one I'm doing for my car.
The hose will use the highest pressure rating hose available for this purpose and swaged
fittings from Parker or Gates of the same fiitting with no or minimal use or adaptors
that would otherwise contribute to potential leaks and failures.
I have no definate price, but certainly under $100 including shipping.
So I'm just finding how many would want one - if even to keep on the shelf for when
yours fails, as it likely will.
If I get good response, I'll follow-up and through with complete information on the hose
and group purchase information.
Cheers,
Ben
P.S. There is probability I'll do this for other cars and hoses later. If there is
another hose we identify as a high failure item, let me know and I'll look into that one
as well.
