Right, but with a twist:

It is in fact a perforated bellows that is mounted around the shock rod,
inside the body and over the piston and is normally filled with shock oil.
It's only role is to add a supplemental bump stop when the wheel drops in a
hole (in off-road driving), a task a normal McPherson is not designed to do.
