I'm with Ed on this one, sure it's rough around the edges, but is very rebuildable/restoreable. And I think it deserves to be saved.
The general opinion on the car is interesting to me with many people say pass. Right now if you wanted buy an 84 urq in the US, to my knowledge this is the only car available. And in the past year there has only been 2 other 84s for sale. I'm puzzled by the attitude that these cars are readily available and another one will surface and can be bought next week.
I think it is only a matter of time until there is a mind shift and people realize how rare these cars are. I know it is not quite a valid comparison, but compare what is going on in the 911/914 world and what people are doing to rebuild these cars. Check out pelican, early 911 registry, rennlist, ddk for examples. Yea I know the 911 values are quite higher than the urqs at this point, but some of the sunk costs on these 911s seem to be higher than the current value. It's great to see what we would consider rust buckets being rebuilt to better than new. It might take a few more years, but our thinking will change, or at least I hope it will.
In the mean time, my recommendation on this example is buy, before the market catches up.
