[urq] How does this happen

Heh,

This discussion has been really interesting for me, because it's unfortunate that these cars are undervalued enough as to make what looks to be a fairly complete car nearly totally undesirable.

I have no doubt that you'd almost immediately throw anywhere from 10-15k in tout in order to bring it up to a decent, quality car.

On the p-car forum, pellican, I'm consistently amazed by the condition of some cars that people buy with the intention of bringing them back to at least the road. Or, they might use an early 911/912 chassis for some crazy project for the track, or some really unique street car, like building a carrera rs 2.7 rep.

I have a sort of vested interest in all of this because of my car. It's an 83, and has a large number of modifications, including an MC-1 with 034 efi, the 3" downpipe, gt28r turbo, 21lbs of boost or so, coilovers, 95 C2 front brakes with 2 piece rotors, non-assisted brakes w/ dual tilton MC's, borla, etc etc etc.

But the thing is that it needs maintenance like motor, tranny, and diff mounts, and other minor things.

The interior is in decent shape, but the leather on the front seats needs a lot of work. Definitely a partial re-cover of the driver's seat, and work on the passenger seat as well. The rear seats are in very good shape, of course.

The exterior has original paint except for on the drivers door where someone used some paint that has faded to a much more orange color. Overall the factory paint is able to be made to look awesome with a good detailing. But the paint on the sunroof has had it.

Anyways, the car is a monster, but with my attention focused on the 911, I'm kind of back to where I was a while ago. Part of me realizes that the logical thing for me to do is to clean it up as best as I can without putting toooo much in to it, and sell it. I'd lose a bunch of money because of the cost of the engine work, but just letting it sit in the garage feels like a waste.

Another, larger, notably larger, part of me wants to hang on to it. That storing it now until I can deal with having both the sc and the urq up and running, financially, is going to be the better decision for me because of my desire to honestly never sell it, and to be able to pass it down the family tree someday, (assuming the tree continues past me, hehe).

Soi dunno what I'm getting at with this. I guess it just makes me a bit sad that these cars can be that hard to keep in desirable condition.

I'm sure that mine is desireable to someone who wants one that is very modified, but it is far from perfect, but it drives really well.

Argh... Well, at least I don't have any rust in the car. I guess if I were to sell it, waiting till the economy comes back enough that the prices come back up a bit would be a wise decision.

Yah...

Michael
