You could get creative with the sound recording if you have any sort
of device that records digital audio with an external microphone. If
you already have a recorder of any kind it's cheap fun. If you don't
own a recorder it's not really worth it. An iPod with voice recorder
would work, as would a laptop in a pinch.
Buy a cheap mic and fasten (tape) it to the rear bumper away from the
tailpipe a bit. Run the cable into the trunk, stash the recording
device safely in the spare tire well. Then you could dub that truely
great audio track in to the video in the editing process. The note in
the interior is nice, but the note from outside is so much more so!
When the Carrera GT was new Porsche had a video of some lucky bastard
JNRing the car 'round the Weissach test track. While watching the
video you could choose any of a few camera angles and switch between
interior and exterior audio. It was bliss. The exterior audio track
was like the song of angels.
