Well, looks there is such a device at Jon Nicholls shop,
(http://www.jonnichols.com/), about 15 minutes from here... Could be the way
to go for my useless Michelin...

If you can't (or don't want to) run studs, there is always the option of
tire
'tractionizing'. BAsiclaly, you 'drive' the tire onto some rollers the fuzz
up the tire tread, with the rubber 'fuzz' giving a bit more traction.
Downfall is that the rubber fuzz wears very quickly (almost instantly on
pavement), and you need a 'tractionizer' device in the first place..
(And not as good as studs)
