[urq] Damaged cylinder walls caused by sand?

My friend had a boat motor that was rebuilt and it got trashed instantly, supposedly because they filled it with sand to hold the form while they machined stuff and didn't clean it out good enough afterward.

I think a more common problem is not taking enough care to avoid having impurities fall into the cylinder when removing plugs and injectors

I'de guess you're using a k&n or similar crappy air filter
and that you drive on sandy roads often .

If you do have the std paper filter installed it could be
that the guy's who rebuild the engine in the first place
did a poor job and allowed dirt to enter the cilinders .
