Yes wavering speedometer, even a little causes the old CC-computer to freak-out. Fix is a new speedometer cable, and eliminate the silly 02-warning box. Check RockAuto.com for cheap price on the cable.
I also believe (but have no proof) that the throttle-cable-cam needs a different shape to have the old-CC-computer be compatible in terms of operating smoothness with a modern(er) motor. What you describe even happens on K24'd UrQs, sometimes also the surge'y throttle which is SUPER-ANNOYING on a long trip.
My plan - is to switch to the Audiovox aftermarket unit, if my original continues to be goofy after the car is back on the road. But doing the basics again with ensuring adequate vacuum supply and reservoir (volume increase over stock) and restricting the ID of the vac-line to essentially slow down the control movements of the OE unit will be attempted first. Somewhere in the old-days I even took apart the vac-switches at the pedal cluster and cleaned/lubed them so they held perfect vac for days.
Honestly the time spent, would be better on installing the Audiovox unit, and making the control-board work using the stock outputs from the UrQ stalk.
